Naomi's Bat Mitzvah

We just got back from Florida, our second trip south for a cousin's bat mitzvah.  We don't really remember Hannah's (we were only 11 months old at the time) but I think that we'll remember this one.  We had LOTS of fun playing with cousins.

Emma's got a great smile.  Maybe she should learn to keep her eyes open though.

Naomi really loves to carry me around.  Yael's just there for support.

There's a playground at the temple that we got to play on after dinner on Friday night.

Lots of cousins.  Back row: Andrew, Hannah, Sarah, Naomi, Marissa.  Front row: Benjamin, Seth, Emma, Yael, Phoebe, Helen, and us.  Not present, due to parents not wanting to travel with newborns: Jack, Simon, and Asher.

Maybe I'll be a rabbi when I grow up.

Yum -- pad thai and orange juice!

The nine girl cousins, together again: Phoebe, Emma, Hannah, Gabi, Sarah, Helen, Yael, Alice, and Naomi.  And Daddy got it in the first shot!

How Not to Buy a Mattress

Step 1: Plan a trip to Costco.
Step 2: Make an impromptu stop at Mattress Warehouse to check prices for a new mattress for us.
Step 3: Spend $500 at your semi-annual trip to Costco.
Step 4: Return to Mattress Warehouse and purchase said mattress.
Step 5: Discover that there's not enough room in the mini-van for said mattress.
Step 6: Tie said mattress to roof of mini-van with twine/rope.
Step 7: Stop twice in the first 5 miles to make sure that mattress isn't going to slide off the mini-van.
Step 8: Thinking that the mattress is secure, continue home.
Step 9: Change your mind about 2 miles later.
Step 10: Pull into the parking lot of the roller skating/laser tag place.
Step 11: Pull mattress off the roof.
Step 12: Take car seats out of car and fold town every possible seat in the mini-van.
Step 13: Cram mattress into back of the mini-van.
Step 14: Have everyone except the driver ride home beneath the mattress.
Step 15: Take a picture when home.

Daddy took some fun videos this evening.  We're really starting to work together nicely these days.  Thank you day care.

Halloween 2012

Halloween was postponed this year, due to Superstorm Sandy.  Mommy missed trick-or-treating this year but Grandpa Joe was an able replacement.  Here are some highlights.

We both went as rabbits this year.  One of us wore the costume.  One of us got the rabbit towel that we fight over.

Helen was a fairy.  A pink fairy to be specific.

The best part about Halloween?  The candy.  We like chocolate.

Apple Picking

Grandma Gail visited while Daddy was out of town for work.  Daddy came back and we all went apple picking.  Lots of fun and yummy apples to boot.

Wherein Daddy Is A Bad Influence On Us...

Daddy has a particular talent: tossing food in the air and catching it in his mouth.  He's recently showed us this skill and we think that we can improve on it.

More Fun in Galveston

If there's one thing we learned in Galveston, it's that we both love the water.

Friday, August 31, 2012

Mommy and Daddy decided that a two-week family vacation to Denver wasn't enough for this summer.  So we hopped on an airplane and flew down to Texas for a Miyake family reunion in Galveston.  Grandma Stephanie and Grandpa Tom found a neat place very close to the Gulf of Mexico for their five children and seven grandchildren to spend a week together.

What did we do?  Well, we played in the pool...

...we made funny faces...

...we played in the pool with our cousin Matthew...

...we played in the hot tub with Matthew...

...we watched videos in awesome dresses that Aunt Lynsie made...

...we waded in the Gulf of Mexico...

...and we chilled.

Denver vacation, part 7 - Rock Throwing

Right outside of our room there is a mountain stream with lots and lots and lots and lots of rocks. Even though it's SUPER COLD in the water, we've taken to wading in to find good rocks to throw.

Denver vacation, part 6 - Fish Creek Falls

Mommy and Daddy have been looking for things for us to do in the morning, before it gets too hot in the mountains.  They found Fish Creek Falls, one of the neatest waterfalls in Colorado (or so someone says).  We parked the car and took a 1/5 mile hike down a dirt path to the falls.

We sat on some rocks to rest...

...or we stood in front of rocks for a photo-op.

Sometimes we sat in tree roots.

Sure enough, we got to play in the water too.  Chilly but fun.

And we had to walk back to the car.  Uphill is definitely easier than downhill.
